Family Day brings NHL alumni to Timmins

Locals can join the Timmins Police All-Stars this afternoon as they face off against NHL Alumni during the annual charity hockey game on Family Day.

The game will take a different form to regular hockey games, with two periods. The half-time show consists of a skills competition with “plenty of pranks and gags” throughout the event, says Alan Richardson, TPS All-Star general manager.

Big names include Walter Gretzky, who will be the alumni team’s honourary coach, as well as Stéphane Richer, a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Montreal Canadiens. Rick Vaive, who is the first player to reach 50 goals in a season with the Toronto Maple Leaf franchise, will also make an appearance.

With popular NHL alumni participating in the charity event, no doubt Signs and Posters cheering on the teams will be prevalent around the arena. These names are also likely to feature on promotional and marketing materials leading up to the game to sell tickets and raise funds.

Organizers emphasize that while the game will bring excitement and entertainment to Timmins, the real purpose is about having fun and raising money for the charity. So far, this event has raised more than $100,000.

This year’s game takes place at the McIntyre Arena in Schumacher at 2:00 pm today (February 15). Tickets are available for $22, spectators can purchase them online at Benefit Hockey in advance or at the door if quantities last.
