Events to get residents running in Timmins

Two events coming up this July will have lots to offer for fitness and running enthusiasts in Timmins.

The Heart of Gold Triathlon will consist of a bike sprint, a swim sprint and a 5K metre run; there is also a separate kid's run for children aged 7-12 and a ‘try-a-tri’, which will cover half of the distance of the main triathlon. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female participants overall and medals will be given to the top three finishers in various age groups.

Sponsors for the event will be recognized in the promotional Posters and will be allowed to insert promotional information in the packages given to participants. No doubt Timmins Print companies will be helping to provide these printed items.

Mud Factor takes place about a week after the triathlon. It consists of a 5K obstacle course. Proceeds raised by the event will be donated to the Alzheimer Society. Participants pay a registration fee and can also solicit pledges from members of the community.

The Heart of Gold Triathlon will take place at Gillies Lake Beach Area on July 15, beginning at 8:00am. There are various registration prices based on the age group and the event. For more information, contact Ron Lapointe at 705-268-7709.

Mud Factor will be held at Porcupine Ski Runners on July 20 from 8:00am. Registration fees are $40 and all participants will receive a free bandana, achievement medal and a tattoo if they wish. Call 705-268-4554 for more information.
