A unique art auction will take place this week in Halifax as the annual Timeraiser art auction gets underway for the third time.
Whereas at a traditional art auction, patrons will show up and bid on works with money, the Timeraiser art auction replaces the money with time. When people bid on a piece of art, they pay for it by pledging to volunteer a certain number of hours with a local charity.
Anywhere from 14 to 17 works of art can be featured at each auction, and each piece carries a minimum bid of 20 hours. Successful bidders can spread the hours they pay over the course of an entire year.
The Timeraiser organization may have hired a printing company for the purposes of flyer printing. Printed Flyers could be distributed to the general public, either in person of through the mail, as a way of advertising the event.
One of the goals of the Timeraiser art auction is to show people that volunteering can be fun, and not necessarily a chore. In addition, bidders get the satisfaction of knowing that they are promoting local artwork along with helping people in need in their community. As for the artists themselves, they are paid for their work through donations made to the Timeraiser organization.
