Halifax workshop to help future chicken keepers

While many people may not be aware of it, it is possible to keep a flock of backyard chickens in Halifax, and an upcoming workshop will help those who want to start their own flock.

An introductory workshop that will explore raising chicken in an urban, suburban or rural environment will soon be on offer. The organizer has requested that anyone who would like to sit in on the session RSVPs ahead of time, and there will even be some friendly backyard hens on hand for them to meet.

During the workshop, the attendees can ask questions and explore the needs of a chicken flock. Housing, feeding and the basics of care will be covered, and while the session is being offered free of charge, a small donation will be appreciated, as this will help to cover the cost of hosting the activity. As the function will take place outdoors among a flock of chickens, everyone is reminded to come dressed in appropriate attire.

An activity like this, which provides an introduction to a hobby, often benefits from having printed handouts on hand to give to attendees. These can be sourced from area Print shops.

The free Chicken-Keeping 101 workshop will provide the inside scoop on poultry care on April 17th. Those who register are asked to meet up at 2494 Creighton Street.
