Although the province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) will be hosting the Canada Games this year, the Long Track Speed Skating event will be held in downtown Halifax, offering a special treat for residents and visitors to the area in late February and early March.
As the largest outdoor artificially maintained skating oval in Atlantic Canada, Halifax’s Emera Oval on Cogswell Street was originally constructed to host this event during the 2011 Canada Winter Games, and the excitement of having the competition return in 2023 will have the city buzzing with activity. The venue is located within the Halifax Common, just a short walk from Citadel Hill and the Halifax Public Gardens.
Returning to the ice to compete for the top podium once again are champions from past years, including Cindy Klassen, Catriona Le May Doan and Mathieu Giroux, among others.
