Hal-Con, Halifax’s annual sci-fi and gaming event, was recently held at the World Trade and Convention Center.
Those who came out for the day could take part in a variety of activities, including workshops, seminars, autograph signing, and vendor displays. Around 5,400 guests took part, and many of those who participated arrived in costume, dressed as their favourite characters.
There were several guest speakers scheduled to give a talk, and these included such well known sci-fi actors a Michelle Forbes, Colin Ferguson, and Mark Sheppard, as well as the actor who plays Hodor on the TV show Game of Thrones.
There were some issues last year with having enough space to accommodate the large number of people who turned out for the convention, so this year, the organizers took a different approach. A limited number of day passes were sold, as well as weekend passes. The cost to attend ranged from $5 a day to $200 for a special “warp speed pass”, which gave all-weekend access as well as special bonus features.
The event was such a success that a larger space has already been planned for next year.
