Contract awarded by Halifax Transit

Halifax Transit has selected the public relations firm that will be responsible for overseeing the latest phase of its system redesign.

National Public Relations has been awarded the $257,586 contract to design, prepare and then manage the transit authority’s upcoming round of public consultations into the proposed redesign of the system routes, and other matters related to the city’s public transportation system.

Feedback is sought from both users and nonusers alike. The firm will collect and compile the input, then provide the results to Halifax Transit, which will then use the data to redesign the current system of routes and schedules, many of which overlap.

The process is expected to tale about three months, and run from February until April. Once the final draft has been agreed upon, it will be presented to city council for approval.

It is expected that the transit authority will also present the other areas it is investigating, such as the installation of automated vehicle tracking systems, as well as new and upgraded fare technologies such as QR Codes for smartphones and reloadable passes.

Once the details have been hammered out and the budget for the updates have been agreed upon, brochure printers will be able to prepare pamphlets and other promotional materials that explain the changes for distribution to the public. This way, they will be able to be kept abreast of the latest developments.
