It is stated in the Elections Act that “No person shall knowingly conduct election advertising or cause it to be conducted using a means of transmission of the Government of Canada.”
Keddy’s sign was placed on a different sign that was an advertisement for the government. It advertised $767,800 in federal fund for an infrastructure project. This was regarding a waste-water project on the corner of High and Dominion streets. It was pulled after a complaint was made by Gordon Earle, NDP candidate. Keddy’s response was that every party has to routinely pull Signs down that are placed improperly.
Earle stated that it appears the Conservative campaign wanted to associate Keddy with a venture paid for by the taxpayers.
Earle said:
“It raises some serious questions about why the Conservative party feels they can utilize government resources for their election campaign. After all, it’s the taxpayers that pay for the governments services and they should be available to everybody, but not the specific domain of any given political party.”
Keddy referred to the NDP party’s comments as “mudslinging”, as well as suggesting that the NDP campaign lacks policy.
