The Atlantic Fringe Festival will take place from September 1-11 in Halifax. It is the 21st year that this festival of theatre and dance has been held. It is easy to see the growth in the festival by looking at the printing styles of the Posters; the earlier posters looked more amateurish than more recent slick-looking posters. While it has something to do with the change in technology, the posters also show how the festival has grown and matured over the years.
This year the Atlantic Fringe Festival will feature 25 different shows from all over the world; these shows include musicals, dramas, comedies, dance performances, musical acts and belly dancers. Tickets can be purchased at a downtown kiosk or at the door. Venues named so far are the Plutonium Playhouse, the Bus Stop Theatre and DANSpace. Those attending can also vote for the performance that will be named the Viewer's Choice.
Those performers wishing to take part in the Atlantic Fringe Festival pay a $50 application feel and a registration fee if they are accepted. Performers are chosen by way of a lottery and are responsible for all advertising and marketing of their performances.
Many major cities now have annual fringe festivals. They are a great way for performers to get experience at production and putting on shows for a reasonable low cost.
