Parramatta welcomes music of Mozart

A celebrated venue in Parramatta will soon host a special performance celebrating Mozart’s music.

The upcoming event, presented by Riverside Theatres, is entitled Mozart’s Clarinet. It will see the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra deliver a programme honouring the great composer and his final instrumental work, the Concerto for basset clarinet in A major. Mozart’s pioneering mind selected the rare musical instrument and wrote what was the first ever major concerto written for the basset clarinet.

The musical piece was finished not long before his death at 35, just two months later. The celebrated Adagio is a popular inclusion in many feature films, including “The King’s Speech” starring Colin Firth, and the 1985 classic “Out of Africa” with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. While many music lovers will have heard it performed as part of film scores, hearing the concerto played on a basset clarinet is a rare opportunity.

The concert will feature Craig Hill, Australia’s leading period clarinettist on basset clarinet, along with renowned conductor, fortepiano and harpsichord maestro, Paul Dyer. The programme will also include a performance of WF Bach’s Sinfonia in D minor.

Organisers of live musical performances often look to professional print shops to design promotional posters, encouraging attendance.

The Mozart’s Clarinet event will take place on Friday, May 13 at the Riverside Theatre at Corner Market and Church Street in Parramatta. The concert will start at 7 pm.
